One of the reasons that I like chess tournaments so much is because you meet so many people there. Each person you play against has a distinct personality, something that I am planning on using in my books (there are a lot of people at chess tournaments that would fit into the Toran Nott books very snugly).
One other advantage is the names of the people in the tournament. There are a lot of interesting ones, such as Nozar Babanoury, Sharahm Nazarinia, Alexander Gustafson, and Petro Grechenai, just to name a few.

Matthew, I think chess and novel writing DO go hand in hand. I am glad you are taking advantage of the experience in more ways than one. Any tournaments coming up?

Congratulations on your new rating! Can't wait to see what happens after the next tournament!
